The Kidney Tests

The Kidney TestsThe kidney tests for renal cell carcinoma include a physical exam which includes touching the flank or kidney area to feel for a kidney mass or kidney pain, blood pressure, urine tests, and blood tests. Imaging tests can show a cancerous kidney mass, kidney tumor, kidney cysts, and kidney stones. While you are in the Urology Specialists office Dr. Sorbellini can quickly see if you have a kidney growth with an ultrasound image of the kidney. Dr. Sorbellini can also take an x-ray image of the abdomen and the chest to see if renal cell carcinoma has spread to the lungs and other organs. A CT image is a very detailed picture that will give the most information about renal cell carcinoma for the urologists to diagnose you with. Since Dr. Sorbellini is one of the few urologists in the world that will perform multiple kidney tumor removal and complex kidney tumor removal in the renal collecting tubes and near the renal hilum and renal artery this CT scan means even more to your outcome then it does for the majority of urologists. These blood, urine, and imaging tests help doctor Sorbellini to plan the da Vinci surgery multiple partial nephrectomy. A kidney biopsy may also be taken.

The kidney tests for kidney stones include a urinalysis, blood tests, imaging tests such as an abdominal CT scan, MRI, x-rays, ultrasound, or an intravenous pyelogram (IVP). If the stone has passed out, the stone itself will be analyzed to determine its composition.

The kidney tests for uretero-pelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction include urine culture, x-rays, CT, intravenous pyelogram (IVP) and voiding cystourethrogram.

The kidney tests for kidney infection are urine specimens for a urine culture and urine analysis.

The kidney tests for polycystic kidney disease (PKD) include a urinalysis, blood tests, cerebral angiography, and also abdominal CT, IVP, MRI, and ultrasound images.

The kidney tests for kidney cancer will reveal the stage of the renal cell carcinoma, how many tumors there are, how large each kidney tumor is, and where they are on the kidney, in the kidney and on the adrenal gland. The imaging will also show other tumors in the body that have metastasized. As a urologic oncologist, Dr. Sorbellini will design your kidney cancer treatment from the results of the kidney cancer tests. While the multiple partial nephrectomies are now the new standard of care, other complementary medicines and treatments will be incorporated to get the best outcome.
